3 Desserts Where Whipped Cream Is The Star Of The Show

There’s nothing quite like satisfying your sweet tooth and indulging yourself when it comes to desserts… and there’s nothing quite as indulgent as a hefty dose of whipped cream.

Cream is such a versatile ingredient, featuring in all sorts of savoury and sweet dishes… but it really does go incredibly well with puddings. Here are a couple of recipes featuring whipped cream that you might like to try.

Flummery

The history of the flummery is a rich one, first seen in England in the 17th century – so if you’re looking to impress and have a good story to tell around the dinner table, this would be a great dessert to try out.

It’s relatively easy to make, as well, so perfect for any beginners out there. It’s a set dessert featuring oats, cream and orange juice, although you can go for any flavouring that takes your fancy. Once it’s set, you cover the top with a very generous layer of honey and whiskey, with lots of delicious cream on the top.

Krumkakes

A traditionally festive treat but one that can be enjoyed all year round are Norwegian krumkakes, the history of which can be traced back 1,000 years

These are sweet and buttery cone-shaped cookies that are deliciously light and filled with whipped cream, jam or any other filling of your choice.

Coffee jelly

If you’re looking for something a little different, what about trying your hand at making some coffee jelly cubes, a historic dessert hailing from Boston that can be traced back to the Durgin-Park restaurant in the city’s Faneuil Hall market, with recipes from 1836.

Easy to make and very delicious, the jelly cubes – made using coffee from the day before – are topped with a healthy dollop of whipped cream. What a fun way to crown the end of an evening of fine dining!
